Four decades on and Wilcom is still leading innovation in the embroidery world
It is 2019, and that means we are celebrating our 40th year of creating world-leading embroidery software! The past four decades has been exciting and packed with innovation.
It all started in 1979 as a research project and a dream, when our co-founders foresaw the changes to come in the commercial embroidery market, and went on to create the first graphic design system for embroidery that could be run on a microcomputer
After debuting our product concept at the 1981 Bobbin Show in Atlanta, USA, Wilcom continued to design software that ultimately reduced the task of embroidery design creation from days, down to hours and minutes, and the embroidery software industry was born.
As computer technology evolved in the 1980s, so did Wilcom. From Mini Computers running Unix, we moved our software onto the then new Desktop PC hardware platform running DOS, and later, Windows operating systems.
In 1985 we invented and then patented our Stitch Processor, a revolution in digital embroidery, and the technology which delivers the legendary Wilcom stitch quality to this day.
In the 1990’s we introduced the world to our EmbroideryStudio software. With that came the release of the now industry standard .EMB file. More than just a stitch file, the .EMB concept allows all of your design information to be stored and edited within the one file.
In 2008, Corel chose Wilcom to form a strategic partnership, transforming EmbroideryStudio into a full multi-decoration solution, further enhancing the experience and value for our customers.
Over the last 40 years, Wilcom has released over 100 versions and updates, including software produced for Toyota, Tajima, Barudan, Bernina and Janome, and we continue to release new versions on a regular basis, enhancing the product and adding new features.
Our latest EmbroideryStudio e4 suite, released in 2017 has proven to be both our most creative and efficient software to date. Importantly, it has also been our most successful, used in over 100 countries around the globe.
Now in 2019, we are excited to release our latest 64-bit software update, EmbroideryStudio e4.2, to be showcased this month at events spanning 3 continents. You can read more about it at www.wilcom.com/e42.
Although our team can look back at the previous 40 years, and be proud of everything we have achieved, we are by no means sitting back. With a history of invention, innovation, and leadership, we will remain the industry’s preferred choice and will continue to set the standard.
